The action continued last night in the Elverys Sports Super League after this paper went to print, where league leaders Castlebar Celtic were putting their 100 per cent record on the line when they travelled to second placed Westport United in United Park; also facing off last night were Ballina Town, who travelled to Claremorris needing to pick up a win, after surprisingly being held by Ballyhaunis Town to a goalless draw last Saturday night.

Ballina Town stretched their lead at the top of the Elverys Sports Super League table after another comfortable 3-0 win over Ballyheane on Sunday morning. Benny Lavelle scored his 10th league goal of the season to give Mick Duffy’s side the lead and Fabinho Macario made it 2-0 before the break. Dylan McKee added a further goal in the second half to move them three points clear of second place Straide & Foxford United who they meet next in the next round of the league.

Last weekend's round of action in the Elverys Sports Super League saw the top division reach the half way point with Manulla still holding on to their lead at the top of the table, they sit two points in front of Westport United, with both Castlebar Celtic and Straide and Foxford United three points further back, making for what looks to be an exciting second half at the top of the table. At the bottom of the table there are three sides separated by just three points, with Achill Rovers, Ballyheane, and Glenhest all battling it out to avoid the drop at this stage, but a run of form from any of those sides could see those placed above the bottom three dragged into the dogfight at the bottom.

Westport hit Claremorris for seven

It was raining goals in the Elverys Sports Super league this weekend as Westport Utd dished out a comprehensive 7-0 defeat to Claremorris on Sunday afternoon in Concannon Park. The star of the show was most definitely Mark McNally who bagged five goals in a stunning display. Phil Keegan and Peter Corcoran also chipped in for the Covies, as they put the south Mayo men to the sword. Elsewhere, Castlebar Celtic romped home to a comfortable 5-0 win away to Conn Rangers. Conor Griffin grabbed a hat-trick, along with goals from Anthony Johnston and a Colm Nevin free-kick.
